I'm xo corvus.

I grew up in Canada, where I learned to make commercial video games. Today I live in the PNW region of the United States and make video games professionally.

I love tinkering and always have some number of projects on the go. I like making small, fast programs, making art, and hosting events.

Career focus & relationship to software

I will probably always be writing software or doing other very-technical things because I like it a lot. I like doing things I'm good at and finding ways to tackle problems with those skills that challenge me.

In my career I'm focused on flexing the skills I can't really flex outside of a professional environment. I'm focusing increasingly more on helping teams strategize, organize and deliver; less on writing code, doing spikes, and reviewing TDDs. My most frequent collaborators are increasingly architects, product managers, producers and technical directors.

It might make financial sense for me to explore a career as a consultant, but I don't think I'd enjoy being that far from players. I expect a next step for me will be as a Director of Engineering; that would be similar to what I've been doing in recent years at a larger scale than I'm used to.

“What do you do for fun?”

Everyone likes to ask game developers what games they're playing. To be honest I've been on a multi-year bender doing little else than working on my game engine, being with friends and chilling with my pet chickens. I've re-started development on my game engine so many times now to explore different ideas and I'm excited that finally Shiver is starting to stick.

As for video games here are some that I've loved playing:
